He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
