The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
