Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until death approached us". 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
