The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 And what do you know, how the Sijjeen is! 8 A written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is a distinctly written record 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
