The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
