Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 "Till the predetermined time." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
