Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
