And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed. 130 But when good befell them they said: This is due to us; and when evil afflicted them, they attributed it to the ill-luck of Musa and those with him; surely their evil fortune is only from Allah but most of them do not know. 131 They said: 'Whatever sign you bring to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe in you' 132 So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people. 133 And when the terror fell on them they cried: O Moses! Pray for us unto thy Lord, because He hath a covenant with thee. If thou removest the terror from us we verily will trust thee and will let the Children of Israel go with thee. 134 But no sooner was the punishment withdrawn for a time to enable them to make good their promise than they broke it. 135 So We inflicted Our retribution on them, and caused them to drown in the sea because they gave the lie to Our signs and were heedless of them. 136 And We made the people who were oppressed, the inheritors of the eastern and western parts of the land in which We placed blessings; and the good promise of your Lord was fulfilled for the Descendants of Israel – the reward of their patience; and We destroyed whatever Firaun and his people built and whatever they had contrived. 137 AND WE BROUGHT the children of Israel across the sea; and thereupon they came upon people who were devoted to the worship of some idols of theirs. Said [the children of Israel]: "O Moses, set up for us a god even as they have gods!" He replied: "Verily, you are people without any awareness [of right and wrong]! 138 “The condition they are in is, in fact, one of destruction – and all what they do is utter falsehood.” 139 [And] he said: "Am I to seek for you a deity other than God, although it is He who has favoured you above all other people?" 140 And when We delivered you from Firon's people who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your Lord. 141
