The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
