He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
