Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
