The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
