Nay! By the moon 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
