Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
