Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
