The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
