The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea swarming, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
