He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
