Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim! 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
