The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
