He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
