Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
