Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
