And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 And the jinn We created before, of intensely hot fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
