The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
