The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wound up; 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when the Garden is brought near;- 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 by the night swarming, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 Where then will you go? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds. 29
