Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
