EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Do they say, "He is only a poet and we are waiting to see him die!?" 30 Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!" 31 Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a people immersed in transgression?” 32 What! They say, “He has invented the Qur'an”? Rather they do not have faith. 33 Let them produce a discourse like it if they are true in their claim. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Or are thy Lord's treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Hath He daughters and ye sons? 39 Or askest thou a hire from them so that they are with debt laden? 40 Or that the Ghaib (unseen) is with them, and they write it down? 41 Or do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves involved in a Plot! 42 Do they have another god besides God? God is too exalted to be considered equal to the idols. 43 Even if they were to see a part of the heavens falling down upon them, they would say, "It is only dense cloud". 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 A day on which their scheming will not benefit them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 For the harmdoers there is indeed, a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 and extol His glory at night, and at the time when the stars retreat. 49
