The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
