He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
