The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
