The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 for We are [going to] send the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 Verily We, We sent upon them one shout, and they became as the stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 And indeed he had warned them of Our seizure – in response they doubted the warnings. 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 And at daybreak a determined punishment came upon them. 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 40
