Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? 34 Has he knowledge of the Unknown that he perceives everything? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? -- 37 that no soul shall bear the burden of another; 38 and that man shall have only that for which he strives; 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 and in the end he will be repaid for it in full; 41 And that the end is only towards your Lord? 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; 44 and that it is He who creates the two kinds - the male and the female 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 It was He who totally destroyed the former 'Ad 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 and the people of Noah before -- certainly they did exceeding evil, and were insolent 52 And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, 53 So they were covered with whatever covered them? 54 Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou? 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And will ye laugh and not weep,- 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 So prostrate yourselves before God and worship him. ۩ 62
