The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
