The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 unto a mighty day 5 The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A book inscribed, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
