In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
