The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
