The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
