AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?" 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
