The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Byzantians have been overcome. 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
