He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
