۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 What, do we then not die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
