The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
