The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
