Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets laid out, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
Almighty God's Truth.
