The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
