۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
