Nay, by the Moon 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
