He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
