Whatever misfortune befalls you is a consequence of your own deeds. But much of it He forgives. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 Further evidence (of His existence) are the ships which stand as mountains in the sea. 32 If He wills, He can calm the winds so the ships remain still on the sea surface; indeed in this are signs for every greatly enduring, grateful person. 33 Or He can cause them to perish because of the (evil) which (the men) have earned; but much doth He forgive. 34 Those who dispute Our verses may know that they have no asylum. 35 Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord: 36 (This reward will be for) those who keep away from major sins and indecency, who forgive when they are made angry, 37 who respond to their Lord and attend to their prayers; who conduct their affairs by mutual consultation and spend out of what We have provided for them; 38 And those who, when they are oppressed vindicate themselves. 39 The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. 40 And whosoever vindicateth himself after wrong done to him; these! against them there is no way of blame. 41 The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. 42 And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage. 43
